Galadriel : 02/2002 :
Watercolor & ink on illustration board : 8.5" x 11" :
This was a gift for Alexis, who one day sweetly wondered if I was planning
on drawing an elven girl. (She's done a lovely picture of Arwen, herself,
among others.) Galadriel has actually been someone I wanted to draw
for a long, long time. I thought Cate Blanchett looked almost exactly
how I imagined Galadriel, but was disappointed in the threatening angle
they chose to take on her character. For me, Lórien was much
warmer, and Galadriel, while beautiful and terrible, was golden and
full of light, like her forest. The song she sings as the Fellowship
departs Lórien, Namárië, exemplified for me
the regret and plight of the elves.
